Types of Drinkware

  1. Goblet - A Water Goblet is the centerpiece of a table’s crystal stemware setting.  Goblets have a stem and a foot or base and a large bowl.  Place goblets directly above the knife, to the right of the dinner plate.
  2. Champagne Saucer - A Champagne Saucer or Coupe is a stem glass with a broad bowl.  The saucer was in style for decades in America but has been replaced in popularity by the Champagne Flute because of the issue of carbonation.  The champagne saucer is suitable if you want to appreciate the bouquet of the finest champagne.  It is also very glamorous to entwine arms with the one you love holding a Champagne Saucer!  If you already own this style of glass you may use it to serve daiquiris if you do not want to use it for champagne. Or serve dessert in your Champagne Saucer for a surprising effect!
  3. Champagne FluteA Champagne Flute is a stem glass with a tall, narrow bowl.  The champagne flute has replaced the champagne saucer (coupe) because it is said that the saucer allows the carbonation of very dry champagne to escape too quickly.  If you are just beginning to consider a crystal purchase, Champagne Flutes should be considered a basic item to own. The Champagne Flute stands to the right of the wine glass/es on your table setting if it is to accompany the first course or a toast. Serve a parfait in a Champagne Flute; one glass - two reasons to own it.
  4. Red Wine GlassA Red Wine glass is a large wine glass for red wines which usually have bold flavor and aroma.  If you only have one size wine glass or are considering purchasing your first crystal, the red wine or larger glass is the one to own.  Remember that the idea of a different wine glass for every type and variety of wine is a relatively new vogue. The Red Wine glass goes to the right of the Goblet on your table setting.
  5. White Wine Glass - A White Wine glass is typically smaller than a red wine glass.  While you might enjoy drinking white wine from a red wine (larger) glass, you might not enjoy drinking red wine from a white wine (smaller) glass.  Size does make a difference when you are choosing wine glasses.  The White Wine glass stands to the right of the Red Wine glass on your table setting if you will be serving both red and white wine.
  6. Cordial - A Cordial or Liqueur glass is used to serve your favorite after-dinner drink.  Liqueurs are generally sweet and served with or after dessert.  Some favorites: Chambord, Crème de Cassis, Kahlúa, Limoncello, Cointreau, Anisette, Drambuie, or if you are an Anne of Green Gables fan, have some Raspberry Cordial.
  7. Finger Bowl - A Finger Bowl is a bowl of water for a diner to rinse fingers between courses, rarely used now.  However these bowls are the perfect size for your favorite ice cream, gelato, sherbet, pudding, or other dessert.
  8. High Ball - A Highball glass, or Tumbler,  is used to serve cocktails and other mixed drinks.  A Highball is a mixed drink with an alcohol base and a larger amount of mixer.  Have a Scotch and Soda, Seven and Seven, or a Cuba Libre!
  9. Double Old Fashioned - A DOF glass is perfect for your Old Fashioned Cocktail – don’t forget to muddle the sugar and bitters.  The Double Old Fashioned is larger than the Regular Old Fashioned glass—11 oz. instead of 8 oz.  A Double Old Fashioned is not just for cocktails; it is a must for Scotch and Whiskey drinkers.
  10. Regular Old Fashioned - A ROF glass (or Lowball as opposed to Highball) is a short tumbler and it’s not just for Old Fashioned cocktails. A Regular Old Fashioned Glass is 8 oz. instead of the 11 oz. Double Old Fashioned.  Any Scotch or other Whiskey drinker will know this glass is perfect for sipping their favorite drink.
  11. Decanter - A Decanter is a serving vessel for red wine.  If you want to aerate your favorite red wine or allow it to breath, pouring it from the bottle into a decanter is just the thing.  It is also thought that wines that are sediment heavy benefit from decanting.  However, you should not decant delicate wines.  Although decanting wine is a topic of debate, there is nothing more elegant than serving your guests from a beautiful decanter.
  12. Pitcher - A Pitcher is a stylish way to serve up your favorite beverage.  Don’t bring the juice bottle to the table.  Pour your lemonade or ice tea into a lovely pitcher.  Then serve your guests in style.
  13. Bowl - A Bowl made of crystal and engraved with designs to match your stemware is a beautiful and stylish way to serve fruit, salad, vegetables, etc.  Or use it to make a spectacular centerpiece for your table.
  14. Brandy Inhaler - A Brandy Inhaler (or Snifter) is a pear shaped glass which is narrow at the top to intensify the aroma of brandy, cognac or bourbon.  You can’t own too many types of glasses, can you?
  • Punch Bowl #1 and #2 - A Punch Bowl is exactly what you need to serve a wide assortment of concoctions, alcoholic and non-alcoholic.  Punch is perfect to serve for large parties and gatherings.  Did you know that Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote a poem entitled “On Lending a Punch Bowl”?  Did you know that the Stanley Cup is a punch bowl?
  • Punch Cup - Punch Cups to perfectly match your Punch Bowl are a must for your large party.  Ladle delicious punch into punch cups for your guests.  How lovely!
