Champagne Glasses

A Champagne Flute is a stem glass with a tall, narrow bowl.  The champagne flute has replaced the champagne saucer (coupe) because it is said that the saucer allows the carbonation of very dry champagne to escape too quickly.  If you are just beginning to consider a crystal purchase, Champagne Flutes should be considered a basic item to own.  The Champagne Flute stands to the right of the wine glass/es on your table setting if it is to accompany the first course or a toast.

A Champagne Saucer or Coupe is a stem glass with a broad bowl.  The saucer was in style for decades in America but has been replaced in popularity by the Champagne Flute because of the issue of carbonation.  The champagne saucer is suitable if you want to appreciate the bouquet of the finest champagne.  It is also very glamorous to entwine arms with the one you love holding a Champagne Saucer!  If you already own this style of glass you may use it to serve daiquiris if you do not want to use it for champagne.
